Career center students take field trip

Students in the Early Childhood Development program at the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center gained a greater understanding of early childhood learning after an Oct. 8 field trip the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh.

The students didn’t just explore the museum, they were there to observe how the children interacted with the exhibits and how the teachers handled the groups of children.

Students visited the Curious George exhibit, Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood, a water zone, an interactive art exhibit, an arts and crafts area and more.

“This was a good place to get in touch with my inner child,” said Michael Pyne, of Austintown.

It was also a great place for students to get ideas for future lesson plans.

“I wanted them to see how they can take ideas from what we saw in the museum and create lesson plans that are hands-on and to always be thinking of how to make it a sensory experience,” Julie Pagnotta said.

By experiencing the hands-on exhibits, the students will be able to adapt what they saw at the museum into enhanced lesson plans for preschool children.
