Canfield doubles team wins district title
Staff report
Canfield High’s doubles team of Allison Pavlansky and Kaitlin Kaleel won the Division I district tennis championship on Saturday.
The Canfield duo defeated Victoria and Mandy Marchant of Kenston, 7-5, 5-7, 7-6 (1), in the championship match at Oberlin College.
“The championship was between two evenly-matched teams,” said Canfield coach Rob Stephens. “[Pavlansky and Kaleel] stayed strong, though, and got the win.”
Earlier, the Canfield team defeated Michelle Djohan and Kelsey Wanhainen of Westlake, 2-6, 6-3, 6-0, in the semifinals.
They will go to the state meet in Columbus this weekend as a No. 1 seed.
“There’s not an easy match at state,” said Stephens, “but as a No. 1 seed we’re hoping for a good draw.”
