The Mahoning County Department of Jobs and Family Services has its Senior Citizen Forum annually, but Thursday was the first time it’s been at the Covelli Centre.

About 200 seniors were expected to attend. The event took place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“We outgrew the department building,” said Krishmu Shipmon, an administrator for the department.

Attendees were entered into a raffle for prize baskets given away by various officials including Mayor Jay Williams.

About 60 vendors were there with information about assisted- living homes, health care and avoiding fraud.

Shirley Millerleile, financial manager at Celtic Healthcare, said she expected about 40 seniors to get their blood pressure tested at the group’s booth.

“It’s all about letting them be continually aware of their health if anything changes,” Millerleile said.
