Warren policeman Jeff Miller has taken vacation time as a result of being charged with domestic violence Sunday night, after a fight with his wife that caused injuries to his 2-year-old son, authorities said.

Miller, 46, and his wife, Stephanie Miller, 29, both of Salt Springs Road, Weathersfield Township, were charged with domestic violence, a misdemeanor, and taken to the Trumbull County jail Sunday night.

Both pleaded innocent Monday in Niles Municipal Court and were released on their own recognizance, meaning they didn’t have to pay anything. Both return to court Wednesday.

Temporary restraining orders also were issued against both Millers, requiring them to stay away from each other.

Warren Police Chief Tim Bowers said he and Jeff Miller decided vacation time was best to give Miller time to handle his legal matters.

The Millers’ son suffered red marks on the right side of his rib cage, under his arm- pit and around his biceps, Weathersfield police said.

The child was taken to Akron Children’s Hospital for treatment, and the Trumbull County Children Services Board was contacted.

The boy is in the care of relatives and not with either parent at this time, authorities said.

Police were called to the Miller residence at 8 p.m. and were advised that Jeff Miller, a 15-year veteran of the Warren Police Department, had tried to put his son to bed, but his wife would not give the boy to him.

The child was injured in the struggle, Weathersfield police said.
