Village hall is closed today, a trend that will continue every Friday for the rest of the year.

The hall at 308 S. Main St. has regular hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, but the doors will be shuttered on Fridays, Nov. 9, Veterans Day (Nov. 11), Thanksgiving (Nov. 25) and Dec. 23.

The village usually employs a substitute to work at the hall whenever the administrative assistant, Paula McFarland, takes a vacation day. But there are no more funds for that this year, said Mayor Tim Sicafuse.

“It is because of the budget,” said clerk-treasurer Linda Srnec.

She added that McFarland has worked more hours this year and has the option to use all of her vacation before the end of the year.

Sicafuse said that he estimates five to 10 people come to the hall daily, adding, “It’s not a huge crowd going through.”

“We’re not in dire straights with the budget, but we want to be cautious because we don’t know what we’ll need in the next three months,” he said.

Individuals who have questions about police tickets or need to speak with a village official are asked to call that hall at 330-757-2112.

“I would recommend that people plan ahead,” Sicafuse said. “If you have a problem or a ticket’s due Friday, don’t wait until Friday to call.”

The next event scheduled in the hall is a regular council meeting at 7 p.m. Nov. 2.
