Boardman man critical after Youngstown shooting

YOUNGSTOWN

A 20-year-old Boardman man was in critical condition after a Thursday shooting on the city’s South Side.

Andre Scrutchen of Shields Road underwent surgery Friday morning at St. Elizabeth Health Center, said Youngstown police Capt. Rod Foley.

Foley said although there are no suspects at this time, there is a person of interest.

Youngstown police received a call around 8 p.m. Thursday about a suspected drive-by shooting on the corner of Taft and East Indianola avenues. When officers arrived, Scrutchen was on his back with gunshot wounds on his right arm and stomach, reports stated.

A man on the scene told police that Scrutchen went to a corner store to buy cigarettes and the two were to meet at an apartment on East Indianola. The man said he was inside the apartment when he heard four shots and found a wounded Scrutchen outside, according to reports.

When police questioned neighbors, they were told that three or four teens were seen on the corner of Hunter and Indianola before the shooting, but no one reported seeing the shooting, only hearing the gunfire, police said.
