Area athletes compete at state tourneys

COLUMBUS
Canfield High’s Bruce “Boo” Timko shot an opening-round 80 on Friday at the Division I boys state golf championships.
Timko trails leader Michael Ricarte of Columbus St. Charles by nine shots entering today’s second and find round at Ohio State’s Scarlet Course.
Also, Canfield’s doubles team of Kaitlin Kaleel and Allison Pavlansky went 1-1 at the Division I girls state tennis championships.
In Div. II, both local players were defeated in their first-round matches.
Chelsea Ross of Warren JFK, a senior, was defeated by senior Madison Morton of Bexley, 6-2, 6-0.
Also, Victoria Ferry of Liberty, a junior, lost to Alyssa Ritchie of Waynesville, 6-0, 6-0.
