YOUNGSTOWN

City council approved economic-development deals with three entities.

Council voted 7-0 Wednesday on all three proposals, which will go to the city’s board of control for final approval.

The deals would be for:

The Federal Building on West Federal Street to receive $100,000 from the city; not have to pay building-permit and water and sewer tap-in fees; and a real property-tax abatement of up to 100 percent.

Oh Wow! Roger and Gloria Jones Children’s Center for Science and Technology for a grant of up to $62,000 to pay for 50 percent of the cost of installing new utility lines at 1 W. Federal St.

B.J. Alan Co. for a waiver on its building permit, and water and sewer tap-in fees for its new building at 1260 N. Meridian Road.

Also, council approved legislation to require owners of electronic games of chance to obtain a license to operate.

There are about four locations in the city.

Council was to consider a proposal to ban texting while driving.

But that legislation is on hold while city attorneys do legal research to determine the proper language for the proposal, said Councilwoman Annie Gillam, D-1st, chairwoman of council’s safety committee.
