A 15-year-old South Range High School student remains in the Martin P. Joyce Juvenile Justice Center after being accused of composing a list of students he intended to harm.

The sophomore was arrested Monday and faces three counts of aggravated menacing, each a misdemeanor, and one count of making terroristic threats, a felony, Beaver Township police said.

The list was not specifically titled “hit list,” but it did have 26 names on it, said Superintendent Dennis Dunham.

“There were kids that were talking to other kids [about this student], and it got to our school resource officer, who led the investigation,” he said.

Dunham praised township police and the students who notified adults when they felt that something wasn’t right.

The student is serving a 10-day suspension, and an expulsion hearing is possible, depending on the outcome of the police investigation and court decision, Dunham said.

All 26 students were notified that they were on the list by Beaver police and South Range schools.

“We’ve taken the list and this concern very seriously from every angle possible,” Dunham said.

“Our ultimate goal and commitment is to make sure that every student is safe, and I believe we’ve done that,” he said.
