Plain Dealer of Cleveland names new editor

CLEVELAND (AP) — Managing Editor Debra Adams Simmons has been named editor of The Plain Dealer, Ohio’s largest daily newspaper.

In November she will succeed Susan Goldberg, editor since 2007, who will become an executive editor for Bloomberg News. The newspaper announced the appointments Wednesday.

Forty-five-year-old Adams Simmons joined The Plain Dealer in 2007 after serving as editor of the Akron Beacon Journal for four years. She has worked at several other newspapers, including The Hartford Courant and the Detroit Free Press.

Goldberg became the newspaper’s first female editor. She previously was editor of the San Jose Mercury News and has worked at newspapers including USA Today and the Detroit Free Press.

The Plain Dealer is owned by Advance Publications Inc. and has a daily circulation of about 268,000.
