Youngstown

Scott Simmons will speak at Pembrooke Place Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center, 850 E. Midlothian Blvd., at 6 p.m. Wednesday. He will share his personal experience living with diabetes.

He is a member of the sanofi-aventis A1C Champions Program, which is a patient-led approach to diabetes education. A1C Champions share diabetes self-management and lifestyle strategies based on extensive training and their personal experience with diabetes.

Simmons will talk about topics including achieving good glucose control; learning about effective self-management; developing a balanced, healthy lifestyle; planning and prioritizing diabetes management; overcoming fears surrounding diabetes; and finding resources for diabetes support.

Free shot clinic

Greenville, Pa.

A free flu and pneumonia shot clinic for individuals 18 and older is scheduled for Saturday at Greenville High School, 9 Donation Road. The clinic, co-sponsored by the Community Health Partnership of Mercer County and the Mercer County Area Agency on Aging, will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. but will close early if shots are exhausted before closing time. Flu vaccines

Niles

The flu vaccine will be given to children only age 6 months to 18 years from 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesday at Niles Senior Center, 14 E. State St. The cost is $3. Medicaid cards will be accepted. If questions, call Niles City Health Department at 330-544-9000, ext. 163.

Flu-shot program

Warren

United Auto Workers Local 1112, Lordstown, is sponsoring a flu immunzation program from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday or until vaccine runs out on a first-come, first-served basis. The flu-shot program is open to the public.

Cost is $16 per shot for adults and children (not recommended for children under 7), and $14 per shot for UAW Local 1112 retirees and spouses only, at UAW Local 1112 Union Hall, 11471 Reuther Drive SW.

Vaccinations

Youngstown

The Youngstown City Health District will offer flu and pneumonia vaccinations in the meeting room of Main Library, 305 Wick Ave., from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday.

This flu shot will be combined with the H1N1 vaccine into one vaccine and the cost is $12. The pneumonia vaccine is also available for $30.

The clinic is open to the public. Medicare and Medicaid participants are eligible and must bring their cards.

Refresher course

Warren

The American Red Cross of the Mahoning Valley is offering a special refresher course in Adult CPR twice this month. Participants in need of recertification with proof of recent certification in adult CPR can enroll in this abbreviated course by calling 330-392-2551 or 330-726-6063.

Upcoming classes are being offered during the day at each location. The course fee is $25 for the 21/2--hour presentation.

One class will be from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday at the Warren office, 661 Mahoning Ave. NW.

The second class will be 9:30 a.m. to noon Oct. 29 at the Boardman Training Center, 8381 Market St., Boardman, behind Bruno Bros. Restaurant.
