An Ohio winner of TV’s “Iron Chef” competition is closing one of his Cleveland-area restaurants because of weak sales. Michael Symon says last call at his Bar Symon in Avon Lake will be at the end of the month.

Symon told The Plain Dealer on Tuesday that the restaurant’s location has been too much of a challenge.

It’s in a suburban shopping center with many vacancies, including a supermarket space that’s been mostly empty since 2006.

The chef says the more than 40 Bar Symon employees will be offered jobs at his three other establishments in Cleveland. A fourth is scheduled to open in January. Symon was crowned a Food Network “Next Iron Chef” in 2007.
