YSU's Main suffers season-ending injury

YOUNGSTOWN

Youngstown State sophomore tackle D.J. Main will miss the rest of the season with a left foot injury, the first major injury suffered by a member of the Penguin offense this fall.

Main, who started the first seven games at right tackle, had a screw inserted in his foot and spent Wednesday’s practice in a walking boot.

Senior Bobby Coates, who started the first seven games at right guard, will shift over one spot and freshman Chris Elkins will get his first career start at right guard, YSU coach Eric Wolford said.

“It doesn’t matter if you’re second team,” said Wolford. “We expect you to play like a first-teamer.”

Senior Chris Gammon, who finished last Saturday’s game in Main’s place, will be the first substitute at right tackle. Gammon has appeared in five games this season, while Elkins has played in two.

Main is the second starter to suffer a season-ending injury, joining senior safety Andre Elliott (shoulder stinger).
