Mooney too much for Struthers in Div. II

BOARDMAN

The Cardinal Mooney High volleyball team defeated Struthers in its Division II sectional volleyball semifinal 25-17, 25-9, 25-23 Tuesday at Boardman High.

Sierra Spotleson had 18 points and 21 assists, Elena Andino-Esparra had 12 kills and Laura Boniface 10 kills and four blocks for the Cardinals (13-10), who will meet second-seeded Hubbard at 5:30 p.m. tonight.

Jascalynn Romeo led the Wildcats (10-9) with 10 points.

Salem 25-25-25, Liberty 14-8-6

BOARDMAN

Mariah Halleck had eight kills and two aces for the top-seeded Quakers, who will play Alliance at 5:30 p.m. Thursday. Alexis Smith added four aces and four kills, Becca Devlin had three blocks and five kills and Laura Brown had six aces and 11 assists.

Liberty finished 5-15.

Southeast 25-18-25-25, West Branch 15-25-22-9

BOARDMAN

Emily Gahagan had 18 digs, eight kills and 14 points and Brittany Woodard had four aces, 23 assists and 14 points for Southeast (17-6), which will meet Crestwood at 7 p.m. Thursday. Alana Woodard added 13 kills and eight points in the win.

For West Branch (9-13), Taylor Metzgar had 20 points.

DIVISION I Boardman 25-25-25, East 11-12-16

STOW

Boardman (16-7) advanced to the sectional final with a win over the Panthers (2-19). Cassie Saunders scored 11 points with six aces and made eight kills and three digs. Joelle Thomas made seven points and 16 assists while Allyson Waterbeck had 12 points with two aces and made three kills. Megan Volosin contributed three aces, seven points and seven kills.

The Spartans will play in Saturday’s 5:30 p.m. game against either Stow or Austintown Fitch.

Canfield 25-25-25, Chaney 7-15-8

STOW

Mary-Kate Andrews had 10 kills for Canfield on Monday, while Sabrina Mangapora added eight kills, seven aces and 16 points. Ellie Rafoth finished with 12 points, five aces and 17 assists; Joey DeLisio had 11 digs, and Holly Rolla had four kills.

DIVISION III United 25-25-25, Campbell 4-11-6

SALEM

The second-seeded Eagles (16-7) advanced to Thursday’s sectional final, where they will play St. Thomas Aquinas. The Red Devils finished 0-17.

The Knights are 12-10, while the Blue Devils finished 6-16.

For Badger on Monday, Amanda Delgarbino had five points, two aces and three kills. Alecia Hughes had eight digs, Ali Governor one block and Hannah Morris five assists.

DIVISION IV Mathews 28-25-25, Leetonia 26-20-23

LISBON

Sarah McCulley scored 12 points with two aces and made four blocks for the sixth-seeded Mustangs. Julie Spadafora had two blocks and 36 assists while Jessie Gearhart had three aces. For the Bears, Clarissa Perkins contributed 12 points, eight kills and four blocks.

East Canton 25-25-25, Youngstown Christian 17-21-23

LISBON

Brooke Wisenburg scored 11 points for East Canton. For the Eagles, Stephanie Parker had 11 points, four aces and 12 digs while Shanelle Harris and Danya Coyier each made seven assists.

Wellsville 25-25-25, Lowellville 8-5-14

LISBON

For the top-seeded Tigers, Noelle Amato had 13 points and 27 assists while Maleya Fultz had 11 points, four aces and eight kills.

For the Rockets, Annie Partika had four points and four kills while Kayla Maszczak made six assists.

OTHER DIVISION IV Warren JFK 25-25-25, Lutheran East 4-6-7

KINSMAN

The Eagles advanced to play Ledgemont in Thursday’s 6 p.m. final at Badger High School.

Windham 28-20-13-25-15, Maplewood 25-25-25-20-3

KINSMAN

Windham will meet Cornerstone Christian in Thursday’s 7:15 p.m. final.

Steph Tucker had five kills for Maplewood, while Jenna Thompson had four assists, Stefania Kopczak had 14 digs and Carey Denman had 12 points and five blocks.
