Attempted murder charge in alleged abortion drive in Ohio

COLUMBUS (AP) — An attempted murder charge has been leveled against an Ohio man accused of forcing his pregnant girlfriend to drive to an abortion clinic at gunpoint.

County prosecutor Ron O’Brien told The Columbus Dispatch in an e-mail Tuesday the charge returned by a grand jury falls under a state murder statute prohibiting the unlawful termination of a pregnancy.

Columbus police say 28-year-old Dominic Holt-Reid became angry after the woman refused to go through with a scheduled abortion. Police say he pulled out a handgun and ordered her to drive to the clinic on Oct. 5.

Investigators haven’t said how far along the woman’s pregnancy was.

Holt-Reid also is charged with kidnapping and weapons counts.
