2 jailed in Subway, KFC break-ins

A 33-year-old Youngstown man is being held in the Mahoning County jail in lieu of a $40,000 bond in break-ins at two restaurants, and a 24-year-old city man who police say was driving the suspect’s car is jailed in lieu of a $10,000 bond.

Police said Anthony Fossaceca of Willowcrest Avenue broke into a Subway restaurant on Mahoning Avenue shortly after 1 a.m. Tuesday. Nothing was taken, although it appears an attempt was made to take the cash register, which was empty, police said.

An officer believed the suspect was heading for the Subway on Canfield Road. Security guards from Brandywine Apartments, off Canfield Road, heard on the police scanner that the suspect was heading their direction and were able to pin down Fossaceca, police said. He escaped, but was caught by officers who found him hiding in a wooded area, police said.

Before officers arrived, they said Fossaceca smashed a glass door at the KFC on Canfield Road, but nothing was taken. He faces charges of breaking and entering, and possession of criminal tools.

Also arrested, by Austintown and Youngstown police, is Alex Parent of South Dunlap Avenue, who officers say was driving Fossaceca’s car.

After a brief chase, Parent hit a parked car and got the Riviera stuck on a fence he hit on South Schenley Avenue, where he was arrested.

Police said they found drugs in the car. Parent was charged with two counts of possession of drug abuse instruments, and one count each of possession of drug abuse instruments and drug paraphernalia.
