Newtown Falls Mayor Patrick Layshock

Staff report

WARREN

Three people have filed with the Trumbull County Board of Elections to run for Newton Falls mayor in the event that a special recall election Nov. 4 is successful in removing Mayor Pat Layshock.

If voters recall Layshock, his replacement will fill the remainder of Layshock’s unexpired term — through Dec. 31, 2011.

The three candidates are Tarry A. Alberini, who gives a post office box; Ronnie L. Cross of Arlington Road; and Lyle Waddell of East River Road.

The deadline for filing for the position was Friday.

The three candidates had to submit 130 valid signatures to the elections board to get on the ballot.

Layshock has been at the center of controversy since July 6, 2009, when he resigned as mayor and then rescinded the resignation.

Legal action was filed in three Warren courts over the issue before the 11th District Court of Appeals eventually restored him to the job.
