Talking their way to the top

Two faithful members of Youngstown Executive Toastmasters Club Chapter 408 won local competitions and are moving on up to the next level.

The club hosted a Humorous Speech Contest and a Table Topics Contest Sept. 27 in the grand ballroom of Shepherd of the Valley in Poland. Chapter members Brian McGowan of Boardman and Ed Metzinger of Canfield were named winners.

McGowan received first prize with a humorous speech titled “On the Way to Eternity.”

Metzinger won in the Table Topics Speech contest with his brief, on-the-spot remarks to the statement, “Courage.”

Each won their initial competitions in the same categories in the local contests earlier this month and continue to the next level.

The two competed in the Central Division Championship Wednesday. McGowan took first place in the Humorous Speech category and Metzinger was second in the Table Topics event.
