Canton McKinley serves Austintown a loss

The Austintown Fitch volleyball team lost to Canton McKinley Oct. 7 in 23-25, 25-18, 19-25 and 18-25 games.

Falcons leaders were Sarah Hoelzel, 12 points and four aces; Julie Martinelli, 14 kills and three blocks; Britney Weidenthal, 23 assists; and Kacie Roche, 20 digs.

Falcons win last one at home

The Fitch boys soccer team’s last regular season home game of the year ended on a good note after the team defeated Chardon 5-0 on Oct. 7.

The Falcons were up 2-0 at halftime and sophomore Keanu Shelton had two goals and two assists. Other Falcons scorers were Ross Blevins, Nate Bowlen and Adam Justice. Chris Platton had four saves and Nick Sheely two.

Fitch holds off Salem

The varsity girls soccer team defeated visiting Salem 6-0 Oct. 4.

Fitch had 16 shots on goal and five corner kicks. Jessica Scott had three saves. Tori Koch scored two goals, while Kristen Schmidt, Jayme Ritchie, Jenna Yacovone and Kaitlyn Shiley scored one.

Kelsey Martin, Meghan Shonce, Tori Koch and Lauren Paolucci each had one assist.

The junior varsity team also defeated Salem, 4-0.

Fitch had seven shot on goal and 10 corner kicks. Goals were scored by Andrea Precurato, Madison Hefner, Krista Martin and Molly Custer. Goalie Cassie Custer had four saves. Madison Hefner, Brooke Neal and Lauren Paolucci each had one assis

Varsity and JV girls soccer win on the road

Austintown Fitch girls varsity soccer team defeated home team GlenOak 2-0 Oct. 6.

Fitch had 11 shots on goal and four corner kicks. Fitch’s Jessica Scott had four saves and the two goals were scored by Tori Koch. Kristen Schmidt and Kaity Shiley each had one assist.

The junior varsity team defeated GlenOak, 1-0.

Fitch had 10 shots on goal and six corner kicks. The lone goal was scored by Lauren Paolucci, Cassie Custer had two saves.

Falcons rally falls short

The varsity girls volleyball team lost to Perry Oct. 5 in four games.

The Falcons lost game one by six points and lost game two by 12 points. In game three, the girls rallied back to win 25-23, but it wasn’t enough to hold off Perry as they came back to win game four 25-15.

Fitch’s Tori Wise had eight points and three aces. Julie Martinelli was the leading attacker with 15 attempts and 10 kills. Britney Weidenthal had 19 assists and leading defender Amanda Callahan received 20 serves and had 25 digs. Julie Martinelli had four blocks.
