Poland girls fourth, Pluchinsky 9th at state golf championship

Maria Mancini shot an opening round 76 to lead the Poland High girls golf team to a fourth-place standing after the first day of the girls Division II state golf championships at Ohio State’s Gray Course on Friday.
Poland scored a team total of 345. Hathaway Brown leads with 321, followed by Lima Shawnee and Huron, both with 343.
Also for Poland, Allison Mitzel shot 79, Melinda Hannon shot 94, Giana DeBenedetto shot 96 and Christina Bilas shot 99.
In the Div. III boys tournament at North Star Golf Resort in Sunbury, South Range’s Brandon Pluchinsky shot an opening round 80 and is tied for ninth place. Pluchinsky shot 37-43, and his front nine included an eagle on the par-5 eighth hole.
In the Div. II boys tournament at OSU’s Scarlet Course, Mitch Weaver of Champion shot an opening round 93 and is tied for 50th place.
All three tournaments conclude today.
