In celebration of its 85th anniversary, the Total Praise and Worship Choir of Pilgrim Baptist Church, 67 McClure St., directed by Charles Robinson, will host a musical at 5 p.m. Oct. 23. Special guests will be soloist Rachelle Joy and Friendship Baptist Church choir of Girard.
The anniversary celebration will continue at 3 p.m. Oct. 24 with the Rev. Julius Davis and congregation from Friendship Baptist Church in Girard as guests.
The Rev. Lee T. Rucker Jr. is host pastor.
Shawl ministry
Canfield
The Prayer Shawl Ministry meets from 10:30 a.m. to noon the third Tuesday of each month or from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. the third Wednesday in one of the Ursuline Motherhouse parlors.
Its purpose is to bring comfort and the security of God’s love to those in need of healing.
Knitters should have a No. 11 or No. 13 circular needle and those who crochet bring No. 11 or larger size hook.
Donations of yarn are appreciated.

New church organ

Canfield United Methodist Church, 27 S. Broad St., is beginning a new era of music ministry with its Rodgers Masterpiece Signature 356 digital organ.
The community is invited to worship at 10:30 am. Sundays to hear it.
The church, on the Green in Canfield, is characterized by strong music, youth and worship programs.
When the current building was erected in 1909, a pipe organ was installed.
The church continues its tradition with the latest installment of this state-of-the-art organ, which honors Frank and Norma Watson for their support of the church.
Don Christensen is senior pastor and Mary Jane Chesmar is organist.
A dedication concert is planned in the spring to showcase the new organ with a guest organist.
A CD of Christmas and other music from the new organ will be available from the church next month.

90th anniversary

Mount Zion Baptist Church, 827 Wilson Ave., will celebrate its 90th year during a service at 11 a.m. Oct. 24 with the Rev. Michael H. Harrison, pastor of Union Baptist Church, as guest speaker. He is president of the Ohio Baptist State Convention.
At an afternoon service, the Rev. Jonathan Moore and Highway Tabernacle members will be guests.
Pastor Moore will preach and the combined choirs of Mount Zion and Highway will present special music.
October is being observed as Family and Friends Month.
Mount Zion will have a banquet at 5 p.m. Dec. 12 at St. Lucy Church banquet hall in Campbell. Tickets are $25.

Discussion planned
Girard
What is the real Christianity? Why isn’t “being nice” sufficient? What constitutes “real” Christian faith? What impact should faith have on our daily living?
These and other related questions will be the basis for a dinner and discussion Sunday at First Presbyterian Church of Girard, 890 Church Hill Road.
The supper begins at 5 p.m. and discussion begins at 6 p.m.

Rosary rallies
Poland
Two public rosary rallies dedicated to Our Lady of Fatima will be at noon today.
A rally in Poland will be held outside the Poland Municipal Building, 208 S. Main St.
A second rally will be in the parking lot outside the office of Dr. Daniel DeGenova, D.D.S., 4530 Youngstown-Poland Road, Struthers. Park in the Clemente McKay building across the street.
Come with your family and friends and pray the rosary for peace. Bring lawn chairs.

Beulah Baptist Church, 570 Sherwood Ave., will have its 13th anniversary celebration for Pastor Harold Logan at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Sunday.
The speaker will be Rev. Henry McNeil at 11 a.m. and Rev. Sylvia Jennings at 3 p.m.
The theme is “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighted in his way,” Psalm 37:23.
The program is free and open to the public.
Mortgage burning

Bridging of the Spirit Christian Center, 3024 Myron Ave., will observe its 10th anniversary at 11 a.m. Sunday. It will also be their mortgage burning, and Brother Gregg Smelly will be introduced as men’s director.
Guest speakers will be Apostle C.S. Johnson and Elect Lady Phyllis Johnson of Antioch, Calif.
Pastor Calvin and Elect Lady Linda Penny are the founders.
Last labyrinth walk

There will be a special TV raffle and also a 50/50 raffle.

Charlotte Ritchie

Chestnut Ridge Church of God, 7215 Chestnut Ridge Road, will present soprano Charlotte Ritchie at 6 p.m. Oct. 24.
Ritchie’s career spans more than a decade. She joined the Southern gospel group the Nelons at age 17 and later joined Jeff and Sheri Easter. She has been featured on the Bill Gaither Video and Concert Series, and has performed worldwide.

Treats for kids

Harvest Point Church, 6100 Tod Ave. SW, will host Trunks-of-Treats in conjunction with the Lordstown Trick-or-Treat from 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 30 in the church parking lot at the Lordstown Plaza.
It will be a safe, friendly atmosphere for children.
Face painting and other activities will be available as well as coffee, doughnuts and hot cider.
Gospel skate

Agape Assembly Church will host its annual Fall Gospel Skate and Food Drive from 5 to 8 p.m. Oct. 31 at Champion Rollarena, 5040 Mahoning Ave.
Admission is free, but a donation of a canned good or nonperishable item is requested.
Skate rental is $3 per person.
A play area will be provided free to children age 3 to 10 years old. All children who attend the skate will receive treat bags.
Last year, this event drew more than 600 youth and parents.
This year, seven area churches are coming together with Champion Rollarena to present the Halloween night event.
Donations of bulk bags of candy to be included in the treat bags can be brought to Agape Assembly Church, 426 Nevada Ave., weekdays from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. or Sundays between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. before Oct. 27.

Harvest Point Church, 6100 Tod Ave. SW, Suite 4, recently went to two services. Service times are now at 9 and 11 a.m.
Sunday school is offered for children at 10 a.m. with coffee and doughnuts available during this fellowship time for adults.

The church recently welcomed Stephanie Black of Lordstown as worship pianist. Stephanie is a 2002 graduate of Lordstown High School and graduated in 2006 from Victory Bible Institute in Tulsa, Okla. She is pursuing a nursing degree at Kent State University.
