Although she’s only been teaching at Canfield for six weeks, Lori Urbas already feels she’s found a place to call home.

“I’m thrilled to have had my first year teaching experience at Canfield High School. The staff and students have certainly made it a welcoming and comfortable experience, and the community has made me feel very much at home,” Urbas said.

Urbas is teaching ninth and 10th-grade English and language arts at Canfield High School. Prior to Canfield, she studied at Ohio State University and student taught at Central Crossing High School in Grove City, Ohio.

Urbas went into the teaching profession to help students prepare for the future and appreciate their purpose in society.

“First and most important, I love reading and writing and believe an interest in both is an important aspect of everyday life. Additionally, I want to become an active participant in adolescent development and preparation for the future.”

Urbas has high expectations and many goals for her students this year, but is also focused on developing significant academic relationships with her students.

“I have mostly focused on creating a unique learning environment for my students and developing meaningful, academic relationships with students from which many successes and accomplishments can stem,” Urbas said.
