Cross country teams fare well

Neighbors | Submitted.Canfield's boys middle school cross country team took fifth place at the Boardman Invitational Sept. 18..Top finishers were Bryan Kristan in 16th place, Rajan Solanki in 19th and Chase Kern in 32nd.

Around 1,00 runners from up to 28 schools participated in the Suburban League Championships at Canfield Sept. 21.

The Canfield High School boys cross country team finished seventh out of 28 teams with a total of 317 runners.

Top finishers were Jon Hutnyan, sixth, Jeremy Hammond, 35th, Nick Tocicki, 40th, Rollin Bresson, 69th, Alex Nischwitz, 92nd, Andy Allen, 93rd, and Zach Brown, 103rd.

The top seven team scores were McDonald (62), Boardman (100), Howland (106), Lakeview (155), Mooney (171), Austintown (183) and Canfield (242).

The Canfield High School girls finished second out of 26 teams with a total of 249 runners.

The top finishers were Jen Love, eighth, Emma Lunne, 12th, Nicole Tiberio, 16th, Jillian Smith, 24th, Marla Marucci, 38th, Brooke Lemmo, 59th, and Jamie Watt, 68th.

The top five team scores were McDonald (74), Canfield (98), Maplewood (102), Poland (115) and Boardman (125).

The middle school boys finished fifth out of 23 teams with a total of 245 runners.

Top finishers were Bryan Kristan, 14th, Rajan Solanki, 17th, Chase Kern, 28th, Alex Shaer, 45th, Pete Crescimanno, 55th, Kyle Anderson, 69th, and Sam Rantilla, 94th.

The top five team scores were Howland (53), Boardman Center (127), Austintown (139), Maplewood (157) and Canfield (159).

The middle school girls finished first out of 18 teams with a total of 218 runners.

Top finishers were Sydney Miller, third, Bailey Fischer, ninth, Jenny McClune, 10th, Haylee Klacik, 11th, Hannah Nischwitz, 17th, Rachel Rostek, 19th, and Gianna Campana, 26th.

Top five team scores were Canfield (50), McDonald (84), Howland (96), Maplewood (145) and Poland (197).

The high school boys and girls traveled to Niles for the Niles Invitational Sept. 25.

The girls team finished second with Emma Lunne in fourth, Jen Love in eighth, Nicole Tiberio in ninth, Jillian Smith in 12th, Marla Marucci in 27th, Katie Tiberio in 31st and Lindsay Tapia in 33rd place.

The boys finished fourth with Jon Hutnyan in second, Robby Reed in fourth, Rollin Bresson in 25th, Nick Tocicki in 26th, Jeremy Hammond in 27th, Calin Solomon in 44th and Zach Brown in 54th place.

Just three days later, the teams traveled to West Branch to participate in the Mahoning County Championships Sept. 28.

The girls team finished in first place. Top individual finishers were Emma Lunne, sixth, Jen Love, ninth, Nicole Tiberio, 15th, Jillian Smith, 18th, Katie Tiberio, 21st, Marla Marucci, 23rd, and Anna Luongo, 39th.

The boys team finished in fifth.

The top individual finishers were Robby Reed, 12th, Nick Tocicki, 15th, Rollin Bresson, 27th, Jeremy Hammond, 28th, Brandon Mirto, 45th, Andy Allen, 53rd, and Calin Solomon, 61st.
