Center boys runners win county title
Neighbors | Submitted.The Boardman Center Middle School boys cross country team finished first at the Mahoning County Championship. Boardman Center Middle School’s boys cross country team captured a county championship at the Mahoning County Meet and the girls team took third.
In the boys division, Center’s first-place team finish was followed by Austintown Fitch in second and South Range in third.
Juan Santiago of Glenwood Middle crossed the line first out of 125 runners with the time of 11:46.10. Brothers Zach and Brian Fryda of Center captured second and third place, respectively, with times of 12:08.60 and 12:10.90.
Following the Frydas, and counting in the point total, were Andrew Gable in 12th (13:58.0), Kostos Kasamias in 22nd (13:28.8) and Sean Allen in 24th (13:31.20). Steve Leerman, 30th with 13:44.01 and James Harken, 37th with 13:51.70 rounded out place winners.
Other team runners for Center included Eric Jones (46th), Adam Calhon (63rd), Adam Deley (71st), Austin Satarelie (96th), Sam Mariano (101st), Vince Huzicia (105th) and Tim Cunningham (116th).
In the girls division, Jordan Grantonic captured first with a time of 12:46.30, out of 116 runners. Irina Sprankle followed in 10th (14:11.50) with Anna Saxton behind in 36th (15:51.60). Haley Gianfrancesco came in at 47th (16:20.70), closely followed by Jennifer Neapolitan (16:33.30) to round out point winners.
Elana Arduin 60th (16:39.90) and Kellie Dunham 63rd (16:48.10) finished in the field. Meghann Morrow crossed in 73rd place with Veronica Marcella (79th), Brooke Zackasee (85th) and Morgan Bindas (88th) also competing.
Canfield’s runners took first in the meet, followed by South Range in second and Center five points behind in third.
