Timko qualifies for state golf

Canfield High’s Boo Timko shot a 74 on Wednesday to qualify for the boys Division I state golf tournament.

Timko, a senior, tied for second overall at the district tournament at Pine Hills Golf Course, a par-72 course.

Last year, Timko qualified as an individual and tied for second with an 18-hole total of 74.

Medina won the team event at Pine Hills on Wednesday, with a score of 306. Cleveland St. Ignatius (308), Lake (312) and Stow (319) also advanced their teams to next weekend’s state tournament in Columbus, at the Ohio State University Course.

Also qualifying as individuals were Ryan Headley of Marlington (who tied Timko with a 74); Cory Vinborg of Mentor, who shot 75, and Zach Champa of Lakewood St. Edward, who shot 76.

There were no other area teams or individuals who qualified for the district tournament.
