Cortland Rotary to participate in national day of helping others

CORTLAND

On Oct. 23 the Rotary Club of Cortland will participate in Make A Difference Day, the largest national day for helping and doing good for others — a celebration of neighbors helping neighbors.

As part of the nationwide effort, the club will sponsor its 21st annual Poorest of the Poor Clothing Drive. It will collect clothing for poverty-stricken people in the Appalachian mountain regions of Kentucky and West Virginia.

This drive will be part of the ongoing Poorest of the Poor Clothing Project of the Rotary Club of Girard-Liberty.

The Cortland Rotary will also have its fourth annual Feed the Hungry Food and Donation Drive for Cortland Area Cares, a local area food pantry that strives to address the growing problems of hunger among residents of the Cortland area.

All types of fresh, canned or boxed dry food will be appreciated, and monetary donations can be made by checks made payable to Corland Area Cares.

All the food and money collected during the drive will help support the more than 200 needy families (including nearly 600 children), adults and seniors now being served within the Lakeview School District.

Members of Cortland Rotary will be at the Lakeview High School bus garage from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Oct. 23 to accept the clothing, food and monetary donations.

Accepted during the clothing drive will be clean new, old or used clothing (no shoes or purses) in boxes or plastic or paper bags.

For each box or bag of clothing contributed, anyone 21 years of age or older will be eligible to receive a free raffle ticket for a chance to win a $100 or $50 gas gift card.
