Niles

An immunization clinic for children will be from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Niles City Health Department, 34 W. State St. No appointment necessary. The child’s immunization records are required. Children should be feeling well, with no illness, fever or rash. Children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Hospice class

Poland

Hospice of the Valley’s new volunteer class begins from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 22 in the Hospice House conference room, 9803 Sharrott Road, on the campus of The Assumption Village, and runs every Friday for six weeks (no class Nov. 26).

Volunteers will learn what Hospice of the Valley’s team of doctors, nurses, social workers and chaplains do for the patients and their families and how volunteers fit into that team.

Hospice volunteers serve in a variety of ways including companions for hospice patients at home or in nursing homes as well as helping at the Hospice House Inpatient facility. New volunteers are needed. For more information or to register, call 330-788-1992.

Cancer website

Christina’s Garden has launched a free cancer resource website to assist cancer patients. ManageCancer.org provides cancer patients and others with information and links to valuable resources such as finances, medication, doctor schedules, communication, support, assistance, education, travel, housing and more. Christina’s Garden, a nonprofit corporation, was created in 2009 to honor Christina Camardese Savage, a Mahoning Valley resident who lost her battle with cancer. Cancer awareness

Warren

The student body and high school football team at Warren JFK are joining together to help in the fight against breast cancer. The “JFK Goes Pink – Fight Strong for a Cure” campaign will take place at the school Monday through Friday and during the varsity football game Oct. 23.

The campaign plans to educate people of all ages that breast cancer, if detected early and treated, has a success rate of 98 percent for surviving it for five years or longer. The campaign also hopes to raise funds that will be donated to the American Cancer Society.

A number of different activities will take place at the school, including a Dress Down Day, where everyone will be encouraged to dress in pink. Also, T-shirts, pink towels, bracelets and a baked-goods sale will be available.

Flu shots

Warren

United Auto Workers Local 1112 in Lordstown is sponsoring a flu immunization program from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 24 or until they run out of vaccine on a first-come, first-served basis at UAW Local 1112 Union Hall, 11471 Reuther Drive, almost to North Jackson off state Route 45.

Cost is $16 per shot for adults and children (not recommended for children under 7) and $14 per shot for UAW Local 1112 retirees and spouses only. The public is welcome.

Diabetes classes

Diabetes Health Education and Lifestyle Program classes will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 25, 26, 27 and 29 at Northside Medical Center, Medical Education Building, Classroom A. Referral by a physician is required. For more information or to register, call 330-887-3115.
