The Youngstown Business Incubator has received a $25,000 grant from the Youngstown Foundation. The funds will be used to renovate a suite at the incubator’s West Federal Street building to expand its Learning Lab initiative. The Learning Lab program, established earlier this year, aims to spur entrepreneurship and innovation through educational, networking and conference events.

Scottrade, a St. Louis-based online investing firm, will open a new branch at The Shops at Boardman Park, 385 Boardman-Poland Road, on Oct. 25. The firm, which has 475 branch offices across the country, offers products and market research tools to help investors make financial decisions. Stockbrokers will be available at the branch office to answer questions and give tutorials on Scottrade’s online trading services.

Fast bacteria testing

Local biotechnology company NanoLogix has developed a new product line for the detection and identification of bacteria. The Quick-Tests can detect and identify a variety of yeasts and live-cell bacteria such as E.coli, salmonella and listeria in less time than conventional testing methods.
