Woman charged with fatally shooting boyfriend
YORK, Pa. (AP) — Police say a woman fatally shot her boyfriend then told emergency dispatchers she thought he was an intruder.
Forty-nine-year-old JoAnn Helfrich called 911 on Tuesday afternoon to report the shooting in York. Authorities say she told 911 operators she thought she shot an intruder who had walked into her home.
When police arrived they found 59-year-old Fred McClure dead of multiple gunshot wounds.
Investigators took Helfrich into custody. They say she told them she shot McClure six times.
Authorities recovered a .22-caliber handgun they say was used in the shooting.
Helfrich is being held without bail after she was charged with criminal homicide.
