HARTFORD

The Trumbull County sheriff’s office continues to search for a man who assaulted a 66-year-old Sharon, Pa., woman Sunday afternoon.

She was riding her bicycle on Custer Orangeville Road near Sharon Speedway.

The woman said a man pulled his gray 2005 Chevrolet Impala alongside and asked her for directions. A short time later, he pulled into a driveway ahead and waited for the woman to come close.

She told police that he got out, grabbed her and pulled her to the side of the road.

The man was described as about 30 years old, about 5 feet 9 inches tall and wearing a dark T-shirt and blue jeans. He pulled the woman’s pants down and grabbed her by the throat and started to choke her, she said.

An off-duty Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper riding his motorcycle saw the man and heard the woman yelling that the man had tried to rape her.

After the officer identified himself, the man drove his car into the officer, causing a minor injury, and fled north.
