Canfield girls 11th at Div. I district golf

MASSILLON
Medina Highland outdistanced the field to win the Division I girls district golf tournament title and advance to next week’s state event.
The lone area squad in the tournament, Canfield, finished 11th of 12 teams and did not qualify.
Highland shot 303 as a team to win the tournamnent. Massillon Jackson (318), Hudson (333) and Brecksville (337) also advanced as a teams.
The four qualifying individuals were Nicole Waers (76) of Massillon Perry, McKenzie Bell (77) of Walsh Jesuit, Niki Henry (79) of Kenston and Alice Ho (79) of Wadsworth.
The tournament medalist was Jessica Porvanik of Highland, who shot a 72. Jessica McRae of Highland was second with a 74.
For Canfield, Annie McGlone led the way with an 80 on the Legends of Massillon course.
Also for Canfield, Kelly Fleming and Kayla Cerimele shot 99s, Olivia Demartino finished with 102 and Michele Whiteleather shot 103.
The state tournament is Oct. 22-23 in Columbus.
