The Poland girls soccer team used a late goal to ensure a 5-3 victory against Beaver Local on Monday.

The Bulldogs (9-3-2) had a 4-0 lead midway through the second half, only to see a strong comeback effort by the Beavers to the tune of three unanswered goals.

But Poland put the final nail in the coffin with a late go-ahead score.

Kelsey Malenic had two goals and an assists for Poland. Also scoring were Abby Brenoel, Katie Marucci and Lindsey Cooper. Assists were made by Tatum Marucci, Erin Gabriel and Madison Brooker.

The Beavers had two goal from Jessica Fair, and another from Shelbie McCoy. Goalkeeper Kim Rottelinni had 11 saves.

Lakeview 6, Niles 1

Cortland

The Bulldogs spread the ball around and had five girls score goals.

Leading the pack was Rachel Herriman, who finished with two. She was joined by Lindsey Clark, Allison Pavlik, Nicole Moldovan and Kaitlyn Tonkovich with one each.

Elaine Moldovan had seven saves for the Bulldogs (12-3).

Jordan Smith had the lone goal for the Red Dragons (7-7-1). Emily Estes had five saves in goal.

Canfield 1, Salem 0

Salem

The Cardinals (8-4-3) connected on only one of their 22 shots on goal. But it’s the only one that mattered.

Paige Baker slipped the ball past Salem goalie Kaitlyn Kelon, who had 12 saves.

The Quakers had only four shots, each were saved by Canfield’s Jackie Podolsky. Howland 5, Hubbard 0

Howland

Five different players had goals for the Tigers (11-1-2) in 15 shots on goal.

Olivia Nicholas, Erika Nites, Seyla Perez, Katie Chambers and Alexis Vardavas each had one goal. Niates and Nicholas also had an assist each.

Goalkeeper Kristin James stopped the only shot that came her way.

Mariah Gordon had 10 saves for Hubbard, which is 7-7-0. JVs: Howland 4-0.

Crestview 2, Struthers 1

Struthers

Liz Hopper and teammate Nicole Richey each had first-half goals for the Rebels.

Sweda Rosen scored the only goal for the Wildcats.

Youngstown Christian 1, Conneaut 1

Youngstown

Schnavel Wall scored for the Eagles, and was assisted by Natalie Hoelzel. Goalkeeper Cami Chickonoski had 11 saves.

Kiysha Stillman scored for Conneaut. She was assisted by Holly Specs. Goalkeeper Brandi Wheeler had seven saves.

Warren JFK 8, Girard 0

Girard

Kelli Guarnieri had three goals and assist to led the Eagles (9-5) in the rain.

Joining here were teammates Eric McBride, Lauren Rodomsky, Nicole Rodomsky and Sammy Jo Marzullo. Kelsey Case had three saves.

The Indians (5-9) got 17 saves from Megan Micnicholas and Liz Sheen.

Badger 1, Liberty 0

Liberty

The rain shortened game saw its only goal come from Kayleen Meredith with an assist from Jennilyn Krumpe.

Liberty’s Victoria Serrano had 13 saves, while Megan Hunkus had three for Badger.

Boys

Heartland Christian 4, United 2

HANOVERTON

Daniel Walsh scored three times and Christian Stryffeler added a fourth goal for the winners (9-4).

Ben McCown had one assist.

For United, Kyle Widlika scored twice.
