Diamond Day for girls aims to uncover the gems inside

In celebration of National Make a Difference Day, A Bridge from Coal to Diamond Girls, also known as ABCDiamond Girls, will host “Diamond Day” for girls ages 10-17 from 2 to 6 p.m. Oct. 23 at the Mahoning Youngstown Community Action Partnership Team Center, 35 S. Champion St.

The event will feature guest speakers Dr. Fareedah Capers; Wilma Torres, planning and development director of MYCAP; Marva Griffin, truancy project director of Mahoning County Juvenile Justice Center; and Talera Jennings, senior sales director for Mary Kay Inc. The event will also feature prizes and giveaways, and refreshments will be served.

The focus of the ABCDiamond Girls program is to address the issues associated with self-esteem and personal development of girls 10-17.

Diamond Day will introduce the community and prospective participants to the program.

A key goal of the program is for participants to come away from the program with confidence, self-respect and a spirit that is resilient.
