SHARPSVILLE, PA.
Opera singer Jason Budd will make his directorial debut in this week’s production of Puccini’s “La Boheme” Thursday and Saturday at the Pierce Opera House.
Budd, a Hubbard, Ohio, native, will also handle the roles of Benoit and Alcindoro, and will serve as chorusmaster.
The 40-year-old has per- formed in opera halls across the globe. He went to Youngstown State and Bowling Green universities and had extensive training in Europe.
Budd performed in “Don Pasquale” in 2009 at the grand reopening of the Pierce.
The role of Mimi will be sung by Jennifer Davis Jones of Canfield; Dr. Francisco Cano, who is the founder of Valley Lyric Opera, will play Rodolfo.
Corrine Morini of Ellwood City, Pa., an instructor at Youngstown State University, will play Musetta.
Other performers are: Nathan Wentworth, Dmitri Polekhin and Laurentiu Rotaru. The conductor is Thomas Bo and pianist is Tristan Cano.
The choir consists of Susan Woge, Miranda Woge, Becky Lopuh, Mary James, Tom Perman, Tom Kelso and Clint Joste.
“La Boheme” takes place in the Latin Quarter of Paris in 1830. Four young friends laugh, love and play together along the edge of starvation in their freezing garret in the story, which was reincarnated as the Broadway smash “Rent.”
