Lincoln still speaks to us

Lincoln still speaks to us

At the west end of the 4B wing at Louis Stokes VA Medical Center at Wade Park in Cleveland, is an area dedicated to Abraham Lincoln. There is a bust of him with some of his quotations on the wall. Two of them spoke strongly to me as I watch what is happening to the “Land of the Free.”

These are the words of Abraham Lincoln:

“If all do not join now to save the good old ship of the Union on this voyage, nobody will have a chance to pilot her on another voyage.” Abraham Lincoln, Feb. 15, 1861, in a speech at Cleveland, Ohio.

In the same vein, he spoke these words: “It is not merely for today, but for all time to come that we should perpetuate for our children’s children this great and free government, which we have enjoyed all our lives.” Aug. 22, 1864, speech to the 165th Ohio Regiment.

Please consider Lincoln’s words as you cast your vote in the Nov. 2 election.
