FARMINGTON
A two-vehicle crash left a motorcyclist in critical condition Sunday night.
A 35-year-old man from Newton Falls was riding his motorcycle on state Route 88 when the driver of a Cadillac failed to yield as he drove onto state Route 88 from state Route 534 about 5:15 p.m. Sunday, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
The motorcycle then went off the left side of the road, turned over and ejected the man, who was not wearing a helmet. The man is in critical condition at St. Joseph Hospital, the patrol said.
The 73-year-old male driver of the Cadillac and his three passengers were not hurt.
231st anniversary
POLAND
PolishYoungstown will join township and village officials in recognizing Gen. Casimir Pu≈Çaski, who fought in the American Revolution, today. The event begins at 4 p.m. in Peterson Park and marks the 231st anniversary of Pu≈Çaski’s death. Poland was named after Pu≈Çaski and Gen. Taddeus Kosciuszko — both from the country Poland who fought in the American Revolution — came to visit the area.
A documentary film presentation of “Casimir Pulaski, Polish and American Hero” by Jolanta Kessler Chojecka will be be shown at 6 p.m. in The Little Red School House, Struthers Road and U.S. Route 224, 4515 Center Road.
NAACP election
YOUNGSTOWN
The Youngstown Chapter of the NAACP says there will be a report of the chapter’s nominating committee and receipt of nominations by its election supervisory committee for the upcoming election of its officers and at-large members at 6 p.m. Tuesday at 3119 Market St., Suite 217.
The election will take place at Suite 217 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Nov. 20. A form of identification is needed to vote. For more information, call 330-782-9777.
Training to help seniors

A training for volunteers who want to educate older adults how to stay safe from Medicare fraud and identity theft will be from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the Area Agency on Aging 11, 5555 Youngstown-Warren Road, Suite 2685, 2nd floor (above the food court), in Eastwood Mall.
Area Agency on Aging, in partnership with Pro Seniors, is offering this free training, including lunch, but reservations are required by contacting Jane at 1-800-488-6070 or jwinkler@proseniors.org.
Nearly $60 billion a year is lost to health-care fraud, waste and abuse. Ohio Senior Medicare Patrol, a project of Pro Seniors, helps combat this problem by providing consumers tips to help them detect and report possible fraud.
With only two staff members to cover Ohio, the SMP relies on volunteers to educate beneficiaries through presentations or distributing materials.
Pro Seniors is a nonprofit organization helping older adults with legal and long-term care issues.

Volunteers needed

United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley is looking for volunteers to help file income taxes for Valley residents.
No prior experience is needed. United Way will have training sessions led by the IRS in the months before the tax filling deadline.
An interest session is set for 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 20 at Ellsworth Fire Department, 6036 S. Salem-Warren Road, North Jackson. Another session will be from 10 a.m. to noon Nov. 13 at Mahoning-Youngstown Community Action Partnership, 101 Federal Plaza East, Suite 200, Youngstown.

Girard leaf collection

The city requires the use of paper lawn bags for the annual leaf collection. The first five bags are provided free with proof of residency such as a photo identification card and a utility bill. Bags will be sold for five bags for $1.
From Tuesday-Nov.30, bags will be available from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and from 8 a.m. to noon Saturdays at Girard Street Department Garage, 943 S. State St.
Leaves raked into the street will not be picked up by the city. Bags will be picked up with regular garbage collection.
‘Immigration’ movie
YOUNGSTOWN
The movie “Immigration and Labor Through the Lens of History” will be shown at 5 p.m. Thursday, and a panel discussion will follow at the Youngstown Historical Center of Industry and Labor, 151 W. Wood St. The event is free.
The discussion will be on historical trends on immigration and labor involving various cultures and ethnicities.
The panelists will be Donna DeBlasio, Martha Pallante, Mehera Gerardo, Rocio Rosales and Armando Labra.
It is co-sponsored by Youngstown State University’s Center of Applied Sciences, Center for Women’s Studies and Maag Library.
