Crash kills woman

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a one-vehicle accident that killed a 20-year-old woman. Ashley Jerina, of Newton Falls, a passenger, died when the 1992 Subaru driven by Nathan Ferris, 21, also of Newton Falls, went off the right side of Palmyra Road near Kibler Toot Road and hit a utility pole. Jerina was thrown from the vehicle and fatally injured about 4 p.m. Saturday. Ferris was taken by helicopter to St. Elizabeth Health Center, where he is in serious condition. The two were not wearing seat belts. No charges have been filed.
Motorcyclist killed

A 62-year-old man from Berlin Center was killed when his motorcycle collided with a Chevy Silverado. Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers said. Blaine Szalaj was driving his motorcycle east on state Route 88 when an SUV driven by Paul Hurd, 65, of Kinsman was turning onto Hoagland Blackstub Road. Szalaj crashed into the car about 4 p.m. Saturday, the patrol said. Hurd was not injured. The state patrol is still investigating, and no charges have been filed.
