Canfield, Fitch earn top seeds at tourneys

YOUNGSTOWN

The Canfield, Salem and Badger High boys soccer teams received top seeds when tournament pairings were selected Sunday.

In girls soccer, Austintown Fitch and Lakeview also were awarded home-field advantage throughout district play.

In volleyball, Hubbard and Salem are positioned for another Division II district showdown in Boardman, and undefeated Lakeview received a second seed in the Jefferson district.

Boys soccer

Canfield (12-1) has the Div. I top seed, followed by Canton GlenOak (10-3-2), Uniontown Lake (10-2-2) and Howland (11-2).

On Oct. 21, Canfield will open tournament play against the winner of the Boardman-Canton Timken match. On the same evening, Howland will open against the winner of Austintown Fitch and Warren Harding.

In Div. II, Salem (10-4-1) has the top seed, followed by Hubbard (9-3-1), Champion (10-3-2) and Cardinal Mooney (4-10-1).

The Quakers open against Lakeview on Oct. 2, and the Eagles open against Liberty. In the other half of the bracket, the Golden Flashes play the winner of the Niles-Poland game while the Cardinals play the winner of the West Branch-Newton Falls contest.

In Div. III, Badger (14-0-1) is followed by South Range (10-4-1), Crestview (10-3-2) and Warren JFK (7-5-2).

On Oct. 23, the Braves open against the Columbiana-Bloomfield winner while the Raiders face off against Matthews or Ursuline. In the other bracket, the Rebels open against East Palestine or Heartland Christian while the Eagles will take on Bristol or Maplewood.

Girls soccer

Top-seeded Fitch (10-1-3) is followed by Howland (10-2-1), Poland (8-3-2) and Canfield (7-4-3) in Div. I.

On Oct. 20, the Falcons open against Canton McKinley, the Tigers play Warren Harding, the Bulldogs face Lake and the Cardinals play Louisville.

In Div. II, Lakeview (11-3-1) is followed by Champion (11-2-2), South Range (12-2-0) and Mooney (7-7-1).

VOLLEYBALL

Southeast (15-5), Hubbard (14-4), Salem (14-4) and Field (14-6) have the best records among the 11 teams competing at the Div. II tournament at Boardman High.

Southeast and Salem are on course to meet in the district semifinals as are Hubbard and Field.

The other Div. II tournament has Lakeview (19-0) going to Jefferson where Mentor Lake Catholic (15-1) has the top seed.

In Div. I at Solon, Warren Harding is seeded eighth and Howland ninth.

At Salem’s Div. III tournament, Waterloo has the top seed, followed by United, Springfield and Girard.

Wellsville, Columbiana, Jackson-Milton and Lordstown are seeded at Lisbon’s Div. IV tournament, with Newbury, Ledgemont, Maplewood and Kirtland are the top seeds at Badger’s tournament.
