Qualifying: The Hartford native ran a lap of 179.556 mph and will start in 39th position for today’s Pepsi MAX 400 at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Calif. Blaney will be driving the No. 37 car owned by Front Row Motorsports/Yates Racing.

Season to date: Blaney is 40th in the NASCAR Sprint Cup standings with 1037 points. He’s 64 points behind Casey Mears.

Today: NASCAR’s top series is in the fourth of 10 races in the Chase for the Championship. TV coverage (ESPN) begins at 2 p.m. with the green flag scheduled to drop around 3:15.
