Canfield and Warren JFK tennis players advance to district play

Both Canfield doubles teams advanced to the Division I district tennis tournament with their play in the sectional matches Saturday.
The teams of Allison Pavlansky and Kaitlin Kaleel, and Gabrielle Brant and Paige Zwicker won their respective brackets. The teams played each other in the sectional championship.
The team of Pavlansky and Kaleel won the match 6-4, 6-2.
Doubles teams from Boardman and Fitch each won in the first and second rounds, and the Fitch team of Nikki Wenick and Kellie Wenick won the third. Both were eliminated from the tournament.
In singles action, Arina Kravitz of Boardman made it to the quarterfinals, but lost 6-0, 6-4 to Jenna Elliott of Green.
Catherine Brown, Nicole Chahine and Stephanie Carrocce of Canfield and Michelle Kordupel of Boardman each made it to the second round. Carrocce made it to the third round.
In the Division II tournament, Warren JFK’s Chelsea Ross earned the No. 1 seed for the districts, while classmate Gabriella Lee and Nicolette Arnotto of Cardinal Mooney and Victoria Ferr of Liberty also advanced.
Ross defeated Arnotto 6-0, 6-2 and Ferry defeated Lee 6-4, 6-2 in the semifinals.
West Branch’s Madeline Mitchell won in the first and second rounds, but was defeated in round three.
In doubles action, the tandem of Claudia Ricotti and Laurencia Lee of Warren JFK defeated Mooney’s Dominique Cicchi and Jamie DiDomenico.
Jordan Stefko and Kacey Haggerty of Mooney defeated Gabrielle Brocker and Danielle Mullis of Poland.
Brocker and Mullis had to default their match due to an illness to Brocker.
