Two wins for junior varsity

The Boardman High School junior varsity boys soccer team defeated Nile 3-0 Saturday. Sophomore Chase Sawyer opened the scoring for the Spartans and Luke Marsco added two second half goals.

On Sept. 30, the Spartans held a 2-0 lead with 10-minutes remaining when the Irish subbed its varsity team to finish out the match. The Boardman team finished with the win 3-0. Spartan scorers were Marcus Hanna, Mark D’Eramo and Alex Thomas. Mike Luongo had three saves in goal.

The Spartan JV dropped a 2-1 decision at Glen Oak Sept. 28. Danny Gotham had the lone goal.

Ebony Lifeline HOF banquet is Oct. 22

The Ebony Lifeline All-Sports Hall of Fame banquet is Oct. 22 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Banquet Hall, 343 Via Mt. Carmel at 6:30 p.m.

The main speaker is former NFL player Jay Cunningham.

Varsity gets one tie, win and loss

Zaire Morrison scored two and Anthony Calautti saved four to help the Boardman High School boys soccer team tie Niles McKinley 2-2 Saturday.

The team hosted Ursuline High School for its Senior Night festivities Sept. 30 and beat the Irish 7-2. Morrison had two goals and Nico Graziani, Christian Silvestri, Matt Horvatich, Michael Billett and Nico Dilanni each scored one.

Silvestri registered two assist and Calautti had three saves in goal.

Senior players Cameron Broyles, Sam Cervone, Danny Kennedy, Morrison, Matt Smaldino and Chris Tokarsky were recognized.

Sept. 28 Calautti had five saves but the varsity team fell at Glen Oak High School 1-0.

Middle school volleyball teams rally

The Boardman Glenwood eighth-grade volleyball team defeated Springfield in two games, 25-17 and 25-13.

Katie Davis had 12 aces and three digs. Amanda Lipke had nine kills, three aces and one dig. Hope Landers had two aces, two kills and two digs.

Haley Landers had two aces and one dig. Jessica Fox had two kills and Kelsie Stutz had one ace and one dig.

The seventh-grade team defeated Springfield, 25-18 and 25-22. Krista Johnson had five aces and two kills. Dara Genovese had five aces and one kill. Katie Platt had four assists and one kill.

Marisa Hanna had three assists and one kill. Andrea Gardner had two aces and two kills.

Ursuline High School’s spirit rally will be Oct. 21 at 1 p.m. in advance of the Ursuline-Mooney football game the following night at Stambaugh Stadium.

The rivalry, which began 52 years ago, attracts alumni of both schools.

Special guests at the rally will include fifth-, sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders from the Catholic elementary schools in the Ursuline district.

On game night, Oct. 22, Ursuline’s Home and School Association will sponsor a family tailgate party in the Bryson Street lot beginning at 5 p.m.
