North Elementary is ready do donate its first load of aluminum cans.
Each month, the school collects aluminum cans to be recycled. They store them in a large earth-shaped storage bin located in the courtyard. Students, faculty member and parents all contribute to the effort. The collection process continues until the end of the school year.
The first pick-up is scheduled for Tuesday.
Principal Micheal Masucci said North has been the No. 1 school in Mahoning County in donating recyclables several times over the years. He wants this year to be no different.
“I am amazed at all of the support from families,” he said. “This really helps teach kids the importance of recycling.”
