Warren man charged with attempted murder

Staff report

Warren

Wallace L. Walters, 28, of Draper Avenue Southeast, has been indicted on charges of attempted murder, felonious assault and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

He is accused of shooting another man at 2:15 p.m. Sept. 24.

Walters will be arraigned in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court today. If convicted, he faces up to 25 years in prison.

Walters’ indictment says he is prohibited from possessing a firearm because he was previously convicted of aggravated assault in Georgia.

Walters is accused of firing multiple gunshots into a 19-year-old Warren man in the rear parking lot of the ACOP Center, 2051 Niles Road S.E., during an argument.

Police issued a warrant for Walters’ arrest within hours of the shooting, and he was arrested several days later in a Niles hotel, where police also found a handgun, ammunition and body armor.

The victim of the shooting is expected to recover.
