Mental health advocates protest Ohio haunted house

SANDUSKY, Ohio (AP) — Advocates for the mentally ill are asking a popular Ohio haunted house to drop two displays they say unfairly characterize the disease of mental illness.

The Ohio chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness says the disease is a biological brain disorder no different than other physical ailments.

The Sandusky Register reported today that the group asked Cedar Point amusement park to drop the displays because they promote false stereotypes.

The group says no one would ever try to use cancer in a similar attraction to scare people.

The displays are titled “Dr. D. Menteds Asylum for the Criminally Insane” and “The Edge of Madness: Still Crazy.”
