Lady Spartan runners third at county meet

The Boardman Lady Spartans cross country team finished third with 82 points behind Canfield and Poland at the Mahoning County Meet at Copeland Oaks Sept. 28.

Katie Heney and Tori Moore led the team by running the 3.1-mile course in 20:23 and 20:24, respectively, and finishing third and fourth.

Trista Cunningham and Stephanie Tieu ran career-best times of 23:13 and 30:46, respectively.

Other varsity runners included Daisy Corso, 22:54; Emma Schwnedeman, 23:08; Maressa Carter, 23:13 and Kaitlyn Carter, 23:18.

Thanks to personal-best times by nearly every runner, the Lady Spartans finished 11th at the Gilmour Invitational Meet on Oct. 1.

Emma Schwendeman led Boardman with a 49th-place finish in a time of 21:48. Trista Cunningham finished 50th with a 21:49. Other varsity runners included Daisy Corso, Maressa Carter, Kaitlyn Emery and Kelly Tomcsanyi.

Other Boardman runners posting their best time of the season were Daisy Corso, Trista Cunningham, Kaitlyn Emery, Breanna Gatte, Annie Kandray, Anna Kasamias, Georgia Kasamias, Emily Lewis, Dana Mooney, Carmen Moradian, Gianna Carbone, Anya Bolger, Emma Schwendman, Stephany Tieu, Andrah Toney and Rachael Sattarelle,

The team will back on the course today for a meet at Stow Silver Springs Park.
