Girard High to host book fair next week

Girard High School, 1244 Shannon Road, will sponsor a book fair from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
Parent-teacher conferences will take place Thursday, and the fair will continue until 9 p.m. that day.
Scholastic books for children through adults bought at the fair should be available that day unless they are out of stock. School supplies also will be available.
Profits from the fair will go to buy new books for the library.
Health fair to offer flu, pneumonia shots

A community health fair will be Thursday at St. Charles Parish Hall.
The health fair will offer flu shots for $12 and pneumonia shots for $30. Screenings of hearing, vision and blood pressure will be available, in addition to a variety of other health services.
The event is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the parish hall, 7327 Westview Drive off U.S. Route 224.
Customers also can buy gift certificates for teachers or the library.

YMCA health fair
YOUNGSTOWN
The Youngstown YMCA’s annual health fair will be from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Central Branch, 17 N. Champion St. downtown.
The Youngstown City Health Department will offer flu shots for $12 and pneumonia shots for $30. In addition, the St. Elizabeth Heath Center Blood Lab will offer a variety of screenings to the community ranging from $5 to $20.
The American Red Cross will have a blood drive from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Free health screenings and services will be available and include vision and hearing screenings, bone-density screenings, blood-pressure checks, glucose screenings, glaucoma screenings, carbon-monoxide screenings and chair massages.
The One Health Ohio Van will be on site.
This year’s event is sponsored by Humana, a company that markets and administers health insurance.

Diversity program
YOUNGSTOWN
The Office of Student Diversity Programs is co- sponsoring the play “Our Young Black Men are Dying and No One Seems to Care” at 6 p.m. Oct. 19 in the Chestnut Room of Kilcawley Center.
The play will be performed by the Flow Theater for a New Era, a nationally acclaimed Columbus theatrical group. It is an off-Broadway hit full of history, passion and sheer drama where the despair and hope of African-American males are exposed and celebrated.
There will be a question-and-answer session after the performance.
Tickets are free (limit 4) and are available on a first-come, first-served basis beginning at 9 a.m. next Friday at the Kilcawley Center information desk.
Co-sponsors are YSU’s Office of Student Diversity Programs, Eastern Gateway Community College, 100 Black Men of Greater Youngstown/Warren, City of Youngstown, Youngstown city schools, Youngstown Metropolitan Housing Authority, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Planning Committee and The Buckeye Review.
