COLUMBIANA

City council has voted to try something different.

Council members approved a motion by Council Bryan Blakeman to have the final agenda items prepared by Friday before each council meeting.

After Friday, nothing else could go before council at its next meeting.

Council regularly meets on the first and third Tuesday of each month.

Blakeman said during Tuesday’s council meeting that every member of council, city Manager Keith Chamberlin and Daniel Blasdell, the city’s attorney, would get information on the items before council met. After that, nothing else could be voted on by council at its next council meeting.

Councilman Lowell Schloneger said that he liked the idea.

In his motion, Blakeman said, “This will allow all members of council as well as legal counsel and city Manager Keith Chamberlin appropriate time to prepare and investigate each issue brought before this council.”

Blakeman said the move will speed up meetings and give council members time to become knowledgeable about the items coming up for a vote.

The motion did not state what time the legislation would be made available on the appropriate Fridays.
