2 lawyers eye Girard court judge’s seat

Two Trumbull County lawyers have announced their candidacies for Girard Municipal Court judge.

They are Jeffrey D. Adler, 46, of Hubbard, and Marty Hume, 54, of Liberty Township.

Michael Bernard, current municipal court judge, plans to retire at the end of this term, Dec. 31, 2011. Bernard has served three six-year terms as judge, starting in 1994.

The court handles cases from Girard, Hubbard city and township, Liberty and Vienna.

Adler is the Hubbard law director, having been appointed to that post in 2006 and elected to a full term in November 2007.

Adler earned a bachelor’s degree in political science at Youngstown State University in 1987 and received a juris doctorate from Ohio Northern University in 1990. He practiced in Youngstown and Boardman. In 1994, he opened up a law office in Hubbard, and consolidated into one location there in 2005. He is a partner in the law firm of Adler & Shugart with Atty. Ursula Shugart and Atty. Ian McKenna.

Adler is a former prosecutor of the Girard Municipal Court (1993-94), a former assistant Mahoning County prosecutor (1994-97), and is an assistant prosecuting attorney in the office of Trumbull County Prosecutor Dennis Watkins. He served as an acting judge in Girard court (2002-06). He is a member of the Trumbull County and Ohio State Bar Associations, Ohio Prosecuting Attorneys Association and Ohio Municipal Attorneys Association.

He and his wife, the former Tina Rosile, have two children.

Hume, a lawyer for more than 28 years, was recognized by his peers as an Ohio Super Lawyer for the last four years. He operates a private practice and has served as an assistant prosecuting attorney since January 1997.

Hume has tried more than 500 cases throughout his career and is certified by the Ohio State Bar Association as a specialist in labor and employment law.

Hume, who was born in Youngstown, is a longtime resident of Liberty Township. He is a graduate of Wesleyan University and Ohio State University College of Law.

Hume has been married to the former Kimberlyn Rexroad for more than 25 years, and they have two sons.
