YOUNGSTOWN

Vacant homes in the city’s Idora Neighborhood will get a new look Saturday.

The Idora Neighborhood Association, along with the Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corp., Home Depot and city officials, will install boards painted to look like windows and doors on vacant homes primarily on Brentwood and LaClede avenues. The work begins at 8 a.m. and ends at 2 p.m.

The project is an effort to preserve viable, vacant housing and to secure vacant housing that poses a safety risk, said James London, president of the Idora Neighborhood Association.

Those interested in helping are asked to meet at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Welcome to Idora mural in the parking lot of the former Sparkle Market at the corner of Winona Drive and Glenwood Avenue.
