Ohio authorities find hundreds of marijuana plants near Akron
AKRON (AP) — Authorities in northeast Ohio seized hundreds of marijuana plants and their processed buds in the state’s latest big pot farm bust.
All-terrain vehicles and chain saws were needed to reach the area in a wooded area of Portage County.
The Akron Beacon Journal reports today that police removed an estimated 705 mature marijuana plants ranging up to 12 feet high, and confiscated about 42 pounds of processed buds.
Portage County Sheriff David Doak estimated the value of the operation at about $788,000. Authorities found a tent and campsite but made no arrests.
State drug investigators say Ohio has seized a record number of marijuana plants found in unusually large growing operations this year.
